When my father received his First Holy Communion here at St. Dennis almost ninety years ago, he could not possibly have imagined that he would one day have a son who would become pastor of his home parish. And so it is with a certain nostalgia that I “return” to this great parish, with every confidence that the God of surprises has great things in store for us as a parish family. Like the first bishop of Paris, our patron St. Denis, who gave his life in the third century in the service of the Gospel, I pray that God, through the power of the Eucharist, will imbue us with such ardent love for Jesus Christ and a desire for his Good News that we will come to understand that the “pearl of great price” – sharing in the life of the Blessed Trinity – is worth every sacrifice. This love has been planted in your heart at baptism, but must be continually nourished with the Bread of Life. I invite you to see for yourself what a difference Jesus Christ will make in your life. I promise that his plan for you infinitely surpasses whatever you have planned for yourself. Come and discover the beautiful truths of our faith in Jesus – a faith defended by our patron St. Denis, who gave his life that you, too, may experience the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
