  "Holy Orders is the sacrament through which the mission entrusted by Christ to his apostles continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time. It includes three degrees of order: episcopate, presbyterate, and diaconate" (Catchism of the Catholic Church 1536).
  
  Deacons, priests, and bishops are essential to the mission of the Catholic Church because the ordained clergy minister to the faithful of the Church by preaching the word, celebrating the sacraments, and by exercising pastoral leadership in the Church community.
